Prescribing costs increase six-fold when patients reach 65, according to a study of more than five million patients published in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology.

spoons_medicines_small.jpgThe study also found that female patients are  23 percent more likely than men to be prescribed medication. When researchers looked at the average number of drugs patients were prescribed those over 75 had almost eight times as many prescriptions as children under four.
