African women who do not have enough food are more likely to sell themselves for sex, according to a study published in the PLoS Medicine. The study of 2000 woman in Botswana and Swaziland found that women in both countries who reported food insufficiency were nearly twice as likely to have used condoms inconsistently and to have sold sex as women who had sufficient food.
